Saizeriya is an Italian family restaurant chain with operations both in Japan and overseas that operates under the management philosophy of "proposing and challenging ourselves to provide valuable meals every day." We spoke to them about their reasons for adopting Tritan™, what their customers had to say, and the opinions of their staff.

Unbreakable—something that had never been thought of before, but by using Tritan™ we were able to make it a reality.

What were the problems or concerns you had with your previous tableware?

First of all, we were worried about it breaking.

Glass carries the risk of breaking, and we want to create an environment where customers can enjoy their meal with satisfaction.

Glass is also heavy, and if it does break, there is the risk of injury when cleaning up. From that perspective, we wanted something that is unbreakable and lightweight, which would help reduce work time and workload, and ultimately provide safety and peace of mind to our customers.

What is safety?

In food industries, contamination even a single hair is unacceptable. Any contamination by foreign objects is a major safety issue. We have a mindset of such safety and should not allow any contamination to happen.

Glass contamination happened once or twice a year in spite of our effort. The idea of “unbreakable” was something we had not thought through, but realized we could achieve the goal with Tritan™.

We have never had to order a replacement Tritan™ due to a breakage.

How often does glassware break?

Although it doesn't happen many times a week, they often break when dropped, so inevitably, 5 or 6 pieces break at a time. Sometimes customers accidentally break them at the table.

We have a box for temporarily storing fragile items, but it sometimes fills up in a month.

We order replenishment every month to replace broken pieces, but we have never ordered a replacement Tritan™ yet.

What exactly should you do if it actually breaks?

First, we check the safety of the customer's surroundings.

Then, we deal with the debris. Most of the debris contains food or drink, so we clean up the debris. This takes at least 5 minutes.

If the debris breaks in the kitchen or back yard, we also dispose of all food within a 5-6m radius.

The work efficiency of refilling glasses at the drink bar has improved.

When do you care about weight?

Glasses are washed and refrigerated in racks, so they can be quite heavy.

When taking them down from the table, I sometimes have to carry five or six mugs at once, which can be quite heavy.

What do your staff think about using Tritan™?

We've heard comments like, "It's light, so it makes work easier!" and "Because it's lighter, it has improved our work efficiency."

Also, unlike typical resin products, the texture doesn't feel cheap, and the wine glasses have a stylish feel, which matches our idea of "enjoying Italian food casually and always."

What are the work benefits of using Tritan™?

Until now, we had been instructed to carry one set at a time because the racks were heavy and dangerous, but by adopting Tritan, it has become possible to carry two sets at the same time. Since the glasses at the drinking bar are refilled frequently, this is an area where the effectiveness of this measure is evident.

It has such a glass-like texture that people often ask, "Don't you have any plastic tableware?"

What was the customer reaction?

"It's so light!" is what customers say, in surprise, the moment they pick up a mug.
When it comes to wine glasses, female customers in particular say, "They're so cute! Do you sell them anywhere?"

Families sometimes mistake our tableware for glass and ask, "Do you have any plastic tableware?" The texture and feel are so good that they seem to be easy to use.

What kind of restaurant would you like to have?

We have many family customers, so we want to ensure that children can enjoy their meal safely.

We also have businessmen who come over for a drink before dinner. It would be
a downer if a dish broke while they were having a drink, right?

We want this restaurant to continue to be a place where people can relax after work. As this is a place where people simply enjoy a meal, we want to continue creating an environment where people can simply enjoy their meal without worrying about any worries or dangers other than the food itself.

What can we expect from Tritan™ in the future?

Tritan™ is a perfect match for Saizeriya's corporate policy of allowing customers to enjoy Italian coffee in a casual setting.

We hope you will continue to propose new colors and thinner drinks.
