The Heart of Ai-Luros™: Our Passion for Japanese Indigo (“Ai”)
For centuries, Japanese Indigo ("Ai") has been cherished in Japan not only as a source of natural dye, but also as a versatile herb used in teas, foods, and traditional remedies. At Ai-Luros™, we draw inspiration from this rich heritage and the enduring relationship between people and Ai.
A Botanical Tradition Rooted in Japanese Culture
Japanese Indigo has been an important part of daily life in Japan for generations. Traditionally, it has been used:
✓ As an herbal tea
✓ As a food ingredient
✓ In traditional remedies
✓ As the source of Japan's iconic indigo dye
More than just a plant, Ai represents a long history of craftsmanship, wellness, and connection with nature.
Its cultural significance continues to inspire us today.
✓ GIAHS*-designated region of Tokushima, Japan
Our Ai is cultivated in Tokushima Prefecture, Japan, a region renowned for its indigo-growing heritage. The indigo is grown within the GIAHS-designated Nishi-Awa Steep Slope Land Agriculture System, where traditional farming practices have been preserved in harmony with the natural environment.
✓ Traditional Indigo-Growing Cooperative
The Japanese indigo used in Ai-Luros™ is cultivated in the mountainous region of Tokushima Prefecture, Japan, by farmers affiliated with a traditional indigo growers' association.
Ai has been cultivated in this region for more than 400 years.
✓ Pesticide-Free Cultivation
The indigo is cultivated without the use of pesticides, helping to preserve the local ecosystem and support sustainable agricultural practices.
*GIAHS (Globally Important Agricultural Heritage Systems) is an international initiative that recognizes agricultural systems that combine biodiversity, traditional knowledge, and sustainable practices.
It is a designation recognized by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO)
From Heritage to Innovation
By combining the legacy of Japanese Indigo with modern scientific research, Ai-Luros™ brings the value of Ai to today's personal care formulations.
