Identification
Chemical Name:
Epoxidized Polybutadiene
Synonyms:
EPL PB3600, EPOLEAD PB3600, Epoxidized polybutadiene, Polybutadiene Epoxydized
Functionality
System:
Epoxy Systems (Resin & Curing Agent)
Function Description:
A reactive epoxidized polymer resin that provides epoxy functionality and terminal hydroxyls for covalent crosslinking with amines or anhydrides; used to impart flexibility, toughness and adhesion when incorporated into coatings, adhesives and elastomeric systems.
Applications & Uses:
Used as a reactive toughening and flexibilizing resin in epoxy and other thermoset coatings and adhesives; employed to formulate flexible, impact-resistant coatings and sealants; used in polymer modification and compounding to improve toughness and elasticity in elastomers and composites; suitable for automotive coatings, industrial protective coatings, and specialty adhesive systems.
Benefits:
Provides reactive functionality for covalent crosslinking to create flexible, tough coatings and adhesives; high purity and low acid/water content reduce side reactions and improve storage/processing; liquid form simplifies incorporation into formulations; defined epoxy equivalent enables accurate stoichiometric formulation.
Performance Attributes:
High purity (≥99%) epoxidized polybutadiene with an epoxy equivalent of 193 g/eq and low acid value (0.06 KOH mg/g) enabling controlled stoichiometry in curing reactions relatively high viscosity (29,000 mPa·s at 45°C) and very low water content (0.008%) provide processable liquid handling and good shelf/process stability. Epoxy groups react with polyamines/anhydrides to produce flexible, tough films and networks.
