Specialty 1 - Biotechnology
|
 |
Nagase's contributions to the biotechnology field began
with the first production of a bacterial enzyme for
textile processing (kimono dyeing) in Japan in 1939.
Since then, Nagase has accumulated a wealth of expertise
in the production and application of enzymes to a wide
variety of industries, winning renown as a pioneer in
the field of enzyme manufacturing. Using cutting-edge
biotechnology techniques, this division has been conducting
extensive research in order to develop a new enzymes
of microbial origin and to apply them to the production
of bioactive and other useful materials. In addition,
state-of-the-art biotechnologies are being applied to
the development of new enzymes that act as biocatalysts
for organic syntheses, helping to establish environmentally
friendly (green) manufacturing processes.

Specialty 2 - Organic Synthetic
Chemistry
|
 |
It has become essential to skillfully combine multiple
reaction steps in synthesizing modern pharmaceuticals
as their structures have become increasingly complicated
in recent years. In the case of a molecule of which
real image cannot be superimposed on its mirror image,
it is necessary to selectively synthesize only the desired
image. Against this backdrop, we have developed practical
methods for efficiently synthesizing only the desired
molecular entity, no matter how complicated its structure
is. Further, we are also dedicated to scaling up chemical
processes in cooperation with Nagase's Chemicals Business
Group of Nagase ChemteX, one of Nagase's manufacturing
affiliates.

Specialty 3 - Life Sciences
|
 |
Rooted in biochemistry and based on its related research
disciplines, life sciences have recently made amazing
advances keeping the pace with other technologies. This
has allowed us to elucidate biological processes at
the molecular level and associate various diseases successfully
with ROS (reactive oxygen species), a cause of oxidative
stress. We also apply molecular biology to screening
studies using animal cells and other biological systems
in order to identify new physiologically active entities.
Using this kind of cutting-edge technology, we are developing
new businesses in collaboration with the Health Care
Business Group.

Specialty 4 - Plastics Additives
|
 |
Thermoplastic resins contain various additives and
pigments depending on their application. We prepare
master batches containing additives and pigments and
evaluate their actual performance to determine optimal
combinations after mixing them with certain resins.

Specialty 5 - Pharmaceuticals Analysis/GMP
|
 |
Pharmaceuticals manufactured overseas must pass stringent
quality examinations before being allowed to be imported
and sold in Japan. To promote the timely, economical
supply of quality pharmaceuticals to the domestic market,
we perform analyses and quality assurance tests that
comply with the GMPI standards set by the Ministry of
Health, Labour, and Welfare, to control the distribution
and quality of imported pharmaceuticals.

|
Specialty 6 - Molecular Materials Development
|
 |
We develop microcapsules, electroconductive polymers,
and other functional molecular materials, as well as
methods to emulsify polymers. We also take on the challenges
of developing new materials and of exploring their application
at the interface of organic and inorganic chemistry.
In the development of electronics chemicals, we cooperate
with Nagase's Chemicals and Electronics Business Groups
and the Chemicals Business Group of Nagase ChemteX,
one of Nagase's manufacturing affiliates.
