Nagase & Co., Ltd. expands polymer filter business, more emphasis on recycling

Nagase & Co., Ltd., in conjunction with group company Nagase ChemteX, is working to expand market for its Denafilter, a polymer filter used in film extrusion and other applications. In addition to broaden the product range to meet a much diversified demand, emphasis will be placed on recycling used filters in view with the increasing level of environmental awareness. The company is planning an annual growth of 2 billion yen for the Denafilter business.

Polymer filters remove impurities and gel from polymer solutions including PET, PP, PC, cellulose and poval. Filters are needed in wide variety of sizes and shapes from the circular leaf disk filter to the bar-shaped candle bar filter, and Nagase is enhancing its product range to meet this diverse demand.

Nagase's polymer filter is made of heat-and-pressure-resistance, anti-corrosive stainless steel, featuring a special inner retainer. Normally when filtration levels are increased, there is greater resistance and risk of clogging, but Nagase's patented Denafilter effectively widens the filtration area and can be used for high viscosity polymers that are proven impossible for conventional filters. The filter is already in use not only in Japan, but also Europe, the USA and Asia including China, Korea and Taiwan. Nagase is targeting in particular the China and Southeast Asia markets which are seeing an influx of large numbers of foreign enterprises, and the filter will be aggressively marketed along with Nagase's other leading products such as plastics and monomers.

Nagase will also be emphasizing its recycling service of used filters in cooperation with Nagase ChemteX. Nagase ChemteX's Harima Works in Tatsuno City, Hyogo Prefecture, is equipped with facilities for industrial waste burning, chemical cleaning and ultrasonic cleaning, offering optimal cleaning method for any type of filters.

Currently the company has contracted with 30 to 40 companies, and expects rapid expansion with the increasing demand for its service due to environmental awareness of filter users.
